Goal #40: Beat a Video Game (Update)

I feel like I have a little explaining to do on this one.  When I say I want to beat a video game, I do not mean I want to beat a game of Tetris or Mario Kart.  I mean I want to actually start a real game and finish it completely - Pokemon, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy.  And it's not that I haven't tried.  I can't even tell you how many games I've attempted to play.  Many of them I get maybe only a couple hours in and I get bored.  Most of the time,  I get frustrated.  You want to see me mad?  Watch me play a video game (or drive).  The patience and talent to finish a game just seems to evade me.  My brother, on the other hand, is a video game master.  I usually refuse to play with him because there is no chance of my ever winning.

I remember one time a few years ago, I decided to play a Lord of the Rings video game with him, co-op.  We're running out of a cave with falling rocks and every time we would be right at the entrance, a rock would fall on me and I'd die, so we would fail.  I think we tried five or six times before my brother gave up on me.  I'M JUST NOT MEANT TO BE GOOD AT THESE THINGS.

One of my friends has had the patience to try playing with me, though.  We both have XBox Live accounts, so we'll play co-op games if we have anything similar.  Unfortunately, the games we try I either get tired of quickly or, once I finally get the hang of a game, he's played it so many times, he's sick of it.  I don't like to play by myself, so I usually don't bother trying to finish.  We are currently on the look out for something else to try.  Maybe a computer game instead.

There have been two games that I almost finished.  Sly 2 for PS2 and Harry Potter 2 for the GameCube.  They weren't completed for the same reason, and it's extremely frustrating.  For both games, I saved them right before the final boss.  When I went to go play the games again, though, both were done!  Magically!  I did not play them!  For whatever, they completely skipped the last battle and told me I completed the game! I WAS SO CLOSE!  And no, because I did not fight the final boss, I am not counting it as completed.

I will admit, there is a game that I am very close to finishing right now.  I've been playing it for about four years now.  Yes, I know, that's pathetic.  In all fairness, I couldn't play when I was at college and it's three discs long.  I do have to be pretty bored to play, or just in the right mood.  Anyway, the game is called Blue Dragon.  I do enjoy it, it's a cool RPG, and I think it's kinda cute.  I am so close to the end, I really should just suck it up and do it.  Maybe I will next week.

Since Tetris is my favorite video game, I will end this post with this song because I find it hilarious and kind of true.

Goal #68: Survive 2012 (Complete)

Today is February 21, 2013.  Obviously, I survived the end of 2012.  Hooray!!!  Either the Mayans were wrong or, due to the invention of the leap year, the end still has awhile to come.  Doesn't matter because I finished another goal!

The world was supposed to end December 21, 2012.  Gotta admit, the day was pretty average.  I'm pretty sure I spent it watching the History Channel, which was airing shows about whether the world was ending.  Fun, huh?

My New Years was very nice.  I went to a party at a friend's house, drank too much vodka (Note to self: filling your glass 3/4 of the way with vodka and adding a little cranberry juice is a gross idea), played Mario Kart poorly (not because of the vodka, but because I suck at video games), and then had the most amazing stuffed french toast for breakfast the next morning!

Unfortunately 2013 hasn't been that interesting thus far.  I finished working a temporary job in January, so I've been job searching since then.  I'm hoping to find a job in Boston so I can move there and complete goal #86: Live in Boston.  I'm crossing my fingers, as decent jobs are pathetically hard to come by right now.  That, or I'm just completely missing them, but I'll blame it on the government and economy and such.  As this year has not been interesting, I guess I should be working on some goals.  I'll follow this post with a couple updates.
